Rangers fans turned up to Ibrox hoping for a reaction. What we got instead was another demoralising home defeat, another flat league performance, and more questions about who in this team really has the mentality to wear the shirt.
Despite changing the shape from a 5-3-2 to a 4-3-3, Barry Ferguson’s side looked every bit as vulnerable as they did in last week against Dundee. The response? Non-existent. The problems? Alarmingly familiar.
Rangers 0-2 Hibernian Match Highlights (grim viewing for Rangers fans)
Butland Blunder Starts It All
It took just eight minutes for Rangers to hand Hibs the advantage. A speculative 25-yard strike from Dylan Levitt somehow found its way underneath Jack Butland — a howler from a keeper whose recent form has been well below the standard required.
That’s now 101 goals conceded in 100 games for Butland — the same average per game as Wes Foderingham, a stat that will surprise many given the earlier praise for the Englishman. But this isn’t a one-off. He’s looked shaky for weeks now, and surely it’s time Liam Kelly was given his shot, especially with the massive Europa League quarter-final against Athletic Club looming.
Goalkeeper | Games Played | Goals Conceded | Average Per Game |
Stefan Klos | 284 | 220 | 0.78 |
Allan McGregor | 497 | 421 | 0.85 |
Wes Foderingham | 143 | 144 | 1.01 |
Jack Butland | 100 | 101 | 1.01 |
Wasteful Dessers Sums Up the Attack
Up front, the story was depressingly predictable. Cyriel Dessers had four efforts in the match — only one on target — and missed two massive chances before half-time. One-on-one with the keeper in the 30th minute, he skied it. Another promising move moments later ended with a wild effort nowhere near goal. He was still on the pitch until the 87th minute, but hadn’t managed a single shot since the 40th.
We called pre-match for Igamane to lead the line with Danilo playing off him. Instead, we got Dessers through the middle and Igamane shunted out wide. And once again, we were left wondering what the logic was.
Defensive Disaster
Martin Boyle wrapped it up with a classic sucker-punch on the counter. A hopeful ball from deep carved us open, and the speedy Hibs man raced away from a high line that failed to hold him. He made no mistake — something Rangers forwards seem incapable of doing lately.
Despite 72% possession and double the number of shots, we matched Hibs only in big chances — and they were clinical, we were not. That’s the bottom line.

Barry Ferguson Fuming – Rightly So
After the game, Ferguson didn’t hide his anger. He’s seeing the same thing we are — a group of players who can lift themselves for Europe or Old Firm matches, but can’t get up for a league game at home against Hibs. That is unacceptable.
Fans don’t want to hear about “good training sessions” or “moments of quality.” We want to see a team fighting for the badge in every competition. If a player can’t give 100% in the Premiership, they don’t deserve to play on Thursday night under the European lights.
Time for Ruthless Decisions
Rangers can’t keep rewarding poor performances with more game time. Dessers and Butland have been below par for weeks now — it’s time for change. Play the lads who are hungry. Give Kelly the gloves. Give Igamane a real chance up front. Let’s stop the favouritism and start picking a team that wants it.
Athletic Club are coming to Ibrox next — a huge night, no doubt. But the warning signs are there. If this mentality continues, it won’t matter what shape we play or who’s in the dugout — we’ll be found out.
