As we gear up for tomorrow’s high-stakes clash against Hearts at Tynecastle, the atmosphere among the Rangers faithful seems to have found a new low. The sting of last weekend’s unexpected Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park still lingers, casting a shadow over our recent performances.
Manager Philippe Clement faces mounting pressure to rally the team and deliver a performance that not only restores pride but also keeps our league ambitions alive.
Hearts, under the guidance of Neil Critchley, have been found good form, boasting an eight-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. Their recent 6-0 demolition of Dundee serves as a stark reminder of the challenge that awaits us.
Historically, Tynecastle has been a challenging venue, and with Hearts’ current momentum, the task is formidable.
Rangers Team News
In terms of team news, we’re grappling with several injuries. Key players like Oscar Cortes, Dujon Sterling, Leon King, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo are sidelined, while Connor Barron and Danilo remain doubtful. This necessitates strategic adjustments and calls for squad depth to step up.
Our defensive line, in particular, will need to be resolute against the attacking threats posed by Lawrence Shankland and Blair Spittal, both of whom have been pivotal in Hearts’ recent successes.

League Form Ahead of Hearts v Rangers
Despite the setbacks, Rangers have gone four matches without dropping points in the Premiership, showing what seemed to be improved performances before last weeks disaster. However, our away form has been concerning all season, with inconsistent performances making every trip on the road a real challenge.
Tynecastle is one of the toughest away grounds in Scotland, and given our struggles on the road, this match will be a true test of character for Clementโs squad.
The onus is on our attacking trioโVaclav ฤernรฝ, Ianis Hagi, and Hamza Igamaneโto penetrate Hearts’ defence and capitalise on scoring opportunities.
Rangers Must Play With Two Strikers
However, Rangers must surely return to having two forwards on the pitch, Igamane and Dessers, with Bajrami dropping to the bench. The combination of Hagi and Bajrami on the pitch does not work.
We would like to see Igamane playing in the number 9 position as the out-and-out striker, with Dessers playing just off him.
Hagi should be deployed out on the left wing, with ฤernรฝ on the right. This tactical shift would provide more structure and a greater attacking presence, something that has been lacking in recent games.
Addressing Lack of Intensity and Forward Momentum
Additionally, Nsiala should return to the Rangers back line. He has looked very good since breaking into the first team, and his combination of passing choices and range of passing has been moving Rangers forward much quicker in recent weeksโsomething Rangers lacked massively in the previous match.
Propper has played a lot of games, so we would like to see him drop to the bench, with Souttar coming back in on his favoured right centre-back position.
Furthermore, the entire defence and midfield must play with a higher intensity and be braver in moving the ball forward, rather than consistently opting for the safe pass along the back line.
Too often, Rangers have been guilty of slow, predictable build-up play, and this must change if we are to break through Hearts’ defensive structure.
Looking Ahead to Hearts v Rangers
The significance of this match cannot be overstated. Many fans believe Rangers will not catch league leaders Celtic, with 13 points between them. With Rangers now out of all domestic cups and unlikely to catch Celtic, they feel there is little to play for.
However, Rangers can’t change the past, and the only way forward is to start putting a string of wins together and improving performances. A victory would not only mend the wounds of our recent cup disappointment but also reinforce our position in the league standings.
The club is in a bad place at the moment. Understandably many fans are calling for change at Rangers. For now the board are backing the manager and the project which is underway. While the club should not escape criticism and fans should always feel free to voice their options, lets keep supporting the club we all love. Together, we can overcome this hurdle and steer our club back on course.
