It seems like every week we’re talking about James Tavernier and a potential exit from Ibrox. Last week, we covered the speculation surrounding our captain, and yet here we are again, with the rumours refusing to die down. This time, it’s the Turkish giants, Besiktas, leading the charge. And it’s not just any club – it’s managed by a familiar face in Gio van Bronckhorst. But are we really going to see Tav leave Rangers, or is this just another transfer window talking point that will blow over?

Rangers Captain James Tavernier Linked with a Move Away

The Van Bronckhorst Factor

Let’s address the elephant in the room: the Gio van Bronckhorst connection. The former Rangers manager has made a blistering start in Istanbul, and it’s no surprise he’s being linked with a move for Tavernier. After all, Gio knows Tav inside out, and if there’s anyone who’d want to swoop for him, it’s someone who’s seen his qualities up close. Besiktas are reportedly keen, especially with their attempts to lure Kieran Trippier falling flat. But with the Turkish transfer window slamming shut on the 13th of September, time is running out.

We all know that Tavernier has been the subject of interest before – Trabzonspor also fancied their chances earlier in the summer. They managed to sign John Lundstram and Borna Barisic, but for whatever reason, Tav stayed put. Could this be the time he finally departs?

Rangers’ Defensive Dilemma

Now, let’s look at the reality. If Tavernier goes, who fills the void? It’s not like we’ve got a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings. Sure, we’ve got options. Neraysho Kasanwirjo can slot in at right-back, and Dujon Sterling – although used all over the pitch – was signed with that position in mind. Leon King has also stepped in before when needed. But will they be enough to fill void Tav would leave? That’s a huge ask.

Rangers aren’t exactly in a position to bring in new recruits either, with the transfer window closed for us until January. So, if Tav does make the move, we’re stuck with what we’ve got until the winter window opens. And let’s be honest, it’s not just his ability as a player we’d miss – his presence in the dressing room and on the pitch would leave a gaping hole.

Time for Tav to Move On?

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: maybe it’s time for Tavernier to move on. As much as it pains us to admit, every player has a natural endpoint with a club. Tavernier has been an incredible servant to Rangers, and perhaps a new challenge abroad could be what he needs. But make no mistake, if the club does make the bold call to let him go, it’ll be one of the biggest decisions we’ve seen in years.

That said, we’re not entirely sure the club will go through with it. Tavernier still has two years left on his current deal, and it’s clear he’s still seen as a vital cog in Philippe Clement’s setup. Besiktas might have to wait until January to try their luck again, and by then, who knows what could change?

The Rangers Board Must Act Now

Final Thoughts

The clock is ticking, and the Turkish transfer window is about to slam shut. Will Besiktas come calling with an offer Rangers can’t refuse? Or will Tav see out the season at Ibrox, once again leading us through thick and thin? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – the Tavernier saga isn’t over yet. As fans, we can only sit back, watch it unfold, and hope the club makes the right decision for the future of Rangers.

Let us know what you think. Is it time for Tav to move on, or should he stay and lead the charge for another season?
